Maharshi Karve Stree Shikshan Sanstha’s Dr. Bhanuben Nanavati College of Architecture for Women (BNCA) has launched five new online courses. These include various structures in bamboo, perennial methods in the field of landscape (geology), traditional materials and construction methods as well as concepts related to various arts form. All these courses are starting on 5th September 2020 on the occasion of Teacher's Day. The online courses have been started to benefit the students taking into consideration the current pandemic.
Dr Shubhada Kamalapurkar, Professor and Heading Online courses of BNCA, said, ‘With the current Covid Situation and the Pandemics that have occurred in the past, we have realized that ecology and environment are very important and we cannot afford to disturb the balance’. We have also realized that it is important to have emotional and creative balance to keep ourselves happy and healthy. With this in mind BNCA is launching 5 Online courses, two of which relate to sustainability, ecology and environment; the courses being ‘Design in Bamboo’ and ‘Sustainable Landscape Practices’ and two of them relate to creativity and performing arts; the courses being ‘Traditional Materials and Techniques’, ‘Performing Arts and Architecture’ and ‘from Ideation to Creation’ where people who are creative can enhance their creative abilities and design using sustainable materials.
Bamboo is a versatile material and renewable resource, which is yet not explored to very best in India. It’s time we get back to staying and building sustainably. This course will enrich students about bamboo and ways of building in bamboo with online demonstrations by the experts in Bamboo Material and technology. The participants will also design and construct small furniture items in bamboo and also have hands on experience of building a structure in Bamboo.
Course on Landscape Practices will cover sustainable and practical dimensions of the field of Landscape Architecture, through a mix of lectures, case-studies, virtual site visits, interviews with professionals working in the field, hands-on activities etc. It will be conducted in Hindi, Marathi, English languages.
Traditional Building Materials and Techniques which explore the traditional wisdom of building and knowledge related to traditional materials and technologies which were more long lasting and sustainable. Experts working on various age old techniques will enlighten us on this interesting topic.
Performing Arts and Architecture is designed to expose the student to concepts, elements, principles and styles of various art forms and their interrelationships with architecture to gain competencies to explore the artistic message expressed through various mediums in order to enhance creative thinking.
From Ideation to Creation is a hands-on E-learning Course to change the perception of how Design is to be looked at, studied and practiced. This will be a step-by-step online course to understand that Design is largely about; the process and not just the ultimate product.
The course has been designed by Architect Sayali Andhare, Dr. Shubhada Kamalapurkar, Prof. Mahesh Bangad, Ar Neha Adkar and Dr. Sanjeevani Pendse. It is being organized under the guidance of Dr. Kamalapurkar and Principal Dr. Anurag Kashyap.
