It all started with animals. Lately I've really been trying to purchase products that are not tested on animals and contain no animal byproducts. I will save that topic for another post.. back to skin care. So I normally use a decently priced Oil of Olay moisturizer for my face. Let me clarify that my skin is EXTREMELY sensitive to oils. If I touch my face for more than two seconds I will get a zit there. I have gone through lotion after lotion trying to find something for my face that doesn't cause me to break out. The Oil of Olay worked well until I found out the parent company shoves gobs of it in bunny rabbit's eyes to see if it hurts. Well, duh, assholes! Of course it hurts! I was so disgusted about this fact that I decided to go on a new search for a quality non-animal related moisturizer.
I tried Aveeno... not quality. Crap. It left me feeling droopy and dirty. I tried Arbonne, supposedly one of the best products on the market, and fairly pricey at that. It went well for the first couple of days. All of a sudden I awoke to feel like raw chicken meat with skin still attached. My skin was super super bumpy and uneven. I was so upset that I started using my Olay again until I found something better. That weekend I stumbled into Nordstrom in my dirty camo shorts and sweatshirt. I felt like Julia Roberts in pretty woman when she looked like a hooker, only I didn't look like a hooker. The good news is the nice ladies at Nordstrom don't give a rats behind about how I look because they want to make a commission. I'd heard Estee Lauder made a great moisturizer for folks like me so I wanted to give it a shot.
I explained to the heavily parfumed, bleached blond, makeup-plastered (I'm not judging, I'm just very observant. After all, I looked like a freaking lesbian rugby player at the time) Estee chick about my sensitivity to, well, everything but water and she leaned in close and said, "Clinique has a better product. It's amazing." I asked for a sample. I'm hooked. This is the stuff.

AH-MAY-ZING.
Seriously. It's a water based gel. Oil free, no bunnies necessary. I never thought I'd want to be a butthead, but I've changed my tune. My face feels as soft as a newborns behind. I'm serious. My skin is smooth, vibrant and cool feeling. It has no fragrance, no extra crap. It cost way more than I'd ever planned to spend on a moisturizer, but I'm thinking it was worth every dollar. My skin hasn't looked this good since I was 8. Thank you Clinique!
As odd as it may seem to some of you, I get asked fairly often about my skin care regimen. I can't say this will work for everyone. I'm a bit of a special case. Like I said before, I NEVER touch my face unless I have a serious itch or I'm washing it. I don't let anyone else touch my face unless they want to get smacked or they're my dentist. I never ever wear any makeup unless I'm going to a wedding, which is getting less and less common and I don't like to hang around "greasy" places. My OCD tells me that hanging around in greasy places gets grease in your pores and therefore causes you to break out. I also get a ton of fresh air, minimum 2 hours every single day, drink a lot of water and try to protect my skin from the sun. I have one more skin tip to offer- when you're feeling oily, wash your face with salt water, or go jump in the ocean. Let the salt water dry on your face, then wash your face with your normal cleanser and moisturize soon after. I'm telling you, you'll feel like Darral Hannah in Splash.
Oh, and one more thing... genetics. If you have bad skin genes, you're probably SOL. Sorry about that.
Thanks mom!
