*an open letter to young girls*
In life, we make a lot of mistakes but sometimes we can avoid those mistakes by seeing others make them. In nearly 17 years of life, I have learned by making a lot of bad choices. To save you from making the same choices I want you to know a few of my beliefs and some of my advice.
The first few are funny, yet so true! For example, I am a believer of shaving even in the winter because you never know when you’ll want to cuff your jeans or wear an adorable sweater dress. You should also know how to walk in heels, even if you never wear them out of the house, it’s an essential skill to possess. I also suggest keeping a fresh tube of your favourite mascara on hand, believe me, when I say clumpy lashes will never be fashionable, even if Vogue says so. Never, ever, under any circumstance forget to wear deodorant and if you do, go back for it. You always smell worse than you think and perfume doesn’t make up for a lack of deodorant. Please, floss at least once a week because it is a rewarding thing and brushing your teeth will never make you feel as accomplished. Shower before bed; trust me when I say sleep in the morning feels way better than sleep at night. Also, master one hairstyle that takes under five minutes in case you sleep in, my go-to is the half ponytail or a messy bun. Teach yourself three simple dance moves and master them. You don’t want to look awkward when your favourite song comes on and you can’t resist the urge to move. ALWAYS sing when you are home alone, this way you can’t hear the murderer hiding in your basement. When you get your license always take the “pull-through” parking spots, reversing in the Walmart parking lot is more stressful than going through airport security. Also, learn how to write elegantly because nothing is more romantic than feminine writing in a love letter.
The next set of advice is a bit more serious so pay attention. Start keeping a journal, in it, you should write about the people you love, the big events of life and what you believe. You never know when you will hit your head and forget about those important details of your life. Life gets crazy, but remember, every roller coaster ends with a hilarious story! You show people how they can treat you, respect yourself and others will learn to respect you as well. For every one conversation you have on your phone, have two conversations in person. ↠ Don’t fall for boys mind-games and mixed signals because they are all in your head. When a guy really cares about you and likes you, you will know and you won’t have to chase after them, they will tell you themselves. Don’t settle for any boy who gives you attention, wait patiently for a man of God who has learned how to love God before he loves you. You also need to be complete in Christ before you can be in a healthy relationship, A BOY CANNOT COMPLETE YOU! ↞ Don’t do something today that you will regret tomorrow; by this I mean piercings, tattoos, sex, bad friendships, shaved sides of your head, you know what I mean? You are also your worst critic. On the days that you think you are less than gorgeous don’t obsess over it because you still look stunning to everyone around you.
In life, we sometimes get confused and think we are racing other people to the finish line. However, we are all racing on a different track. When you reach a mountain don’t become jealous of someone else because they will reach a mountain at some point too.
If you only remember a bit of this advice, remember to find your confidence in Jesus, don’t settle for a boy waiting for a man is worth it, and never forget deodorant. Shower before bed, keep a journal and always sing when you are home alone.
I hope you can learn from my mistakes,
Terrace ♡
